Insulation Resistance Testing

Insulation Resistance Test

Megger Test

  • This test is also known as megger test.
  • The Insulation Resistance test is routine test. It is usually done at 300 to 500 V D.C. with 100 to 500 Mega ohm resistance.
  • The test voltage is applied across cable insulation and grounded sheath . The voltage and current is measured carefully. Then insulation resistance using Ohm's Law (R = V / I) is calculated.
  • The test is a very sensitive to contamination such as solder flux, oils, mold release agents, and skin oil in the assembly process.
  • These agents can cause problems. This test excels at identifying insulation that will conduct in the presence of moisture.
