Global Energy Consumption

Global Energy Consumption
Global Energy Consumption
  • As against the available sources of energy, the energy consumption is showing a much faster growth rate. These are given in the succeeding sections sector wise.
  • The global primary energy consumption at present was equivalent to 9741 million tonnes of oil equivalent (Mtoe).
  • Table gives the figures of world consumption of energy sector wise and country wise.
Table : Primary energy consumption by fuel (2002) in million of oil equipment.

World future trends :
  1. Energy use will grow strongly, especially among the developing countries (2.7% per year in the developing world).
  2. There will be continued reliance on fossil fuels through 2025; oil remains the dominant fuel type (39% of total world energy use).
  3. Natural gas is the fastest growing sources of primary energy (2.2% per year).
  4. Coal will continue to be the predominant source for electricity generation, but natural gas will be an important supply source for power generation in many parts of the world, given its efficiency and environmental benefits.
  5. Carbon dioxide emissions resulting from the combustion of fossil fuels will continue to grow (1.9% per year).
