Operation of Static Induction Thyristors (SIT)
- Anode is connected to a positive voltage with respect to cathode and a positive voltage pulse is applied to the gates Figure (a).
Figure (a) - The depletion region is filled with carriers and the device is turned ON. The anode current flows from anode to cathode.
- Now refer Figure (b). The anode to cathode voltage VA is still positive but the gate is reverse biased with respect to cathode (switch SW closed).
Figure (b) - A depletion region is formed around the gate which does not allow the SIT to conduct.
SIT is used for the following applications
1. Energy accelerator.
2. Current source inverter.
3. High Frequency energy conversion.
